    The science is clear: When your nervous system gets stuck in fight-or-flight (sympathetic) or shutdown mode (dorsal), your prefrontal cortex goes offline. So all that executive functioning, creative problem-solving, and strategic thinking? Unavailable.

    So we reach for something – anything – to regulate: doom scrolling, overworking, junk food, sugar, caffeine, that third glass of wine, the relentless news cycle. It makes sense! We're trying to shift our state, feel calmer, more organized, more alive.
